Still Alive! Alive!

Yes, I still live. Spent the week in busy RL world, the upshot of which is the arrival of my shiny new Vaio laptop. It weighs 4lb, and holds a lot of stuff. Or rather it will, when I get around to transfering the lot of stuff from one computer to the other. Which will probably be this week.

In the middle of Robin McKinley's The Hero and the Crown which is amusing. Still needing the light stuff, definitely, as real life has turned my brain to splooge. Maybe I'll return to something nearing sane in a few days. One can only hope.

Unfortunately, I missed my last chance to see the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company for the year in favor of family, but I shall comfort myself with the knowledge that Taming of the Shrew is very far from my favorite play. Still, free Shakespeare - sadness.

Ah well. No need to be too down. How about a poll? Shiny poll!

The Perilous Gaurd is quite good and interesting...starts out as historical fiction and takes a very interesting turn. And The Neverending Story is fascinating and confusing in a good way.

Yeah, this one's on the list via pure recommendation and unbeatable price at the Half-Price Books I was scouring. :)

Oooh. I'm reading Lirael now and I just finished Sabriel. It's so creative and addicting. The Hero and the Crown is a favorite from when I was a kid. ^_^

That's great to hear. I worry sometimes when I pick up stuff based on one person's recommendation, but the Abhorsen trilogy seems universally loved.

Night Watch is definitely one of my top favorites among the Discworld books (but then, Vetinari and Vimes are two of my favorite recurring characters). And The Secret Country is lovely, though I do prefer Tam Lin among Dean's books that I've read.

And it's very hard for me to think of House (to which I'm seriously addicted, along with, coincidentally, what seems like half my f-list) as "Hugh Laurie with an American accent" -- I'd previously only seen Laurie in Blackadder, and it took me more than a few episodes to finally twig that, wait, that's Prince George playing the snarky and brilliant doctor..?!

My boyfriend said that Night Watch is probably the best Discworld novel. I loaned it to him for our Aruba beach reading (as I'd brought a ton and he had nothing), and he wouldn't give it back until the end.

It's also his fault I'm looking at House with that perspective - he keeps going "It's Hugh Laurie! As an American!"
