I see what people were talking about regarding them pushing the sex appeal in the promo. Mind you, I'm all for sex appeal, I just didn't expect that much of it.

I think BSG is really coloring my impressions of the night. We went from happy bouncy SG-1 to not-quite-fracked Atlantis, to really, really screwed Galactica, and my head is feeling the whiplash.

I adore Vala. I do wonder about how they managed to get her back into that corset right after the infirmary scene (and who had that lucky task), but she really is a breath of fresh air. I didn't expect to see so much of Sam in this ep, and that made me rather happy, honestly. Jack, too, was quite welcome. To be honest, though, I felt the premiere was much too slow, and full of unnecessary exposition. Perhaps it's for the benefit of people tuning in the first time, or the faster pace of the shows that followed, but it seemed to lag. The scene after Teal'c leaves Mitchell to go into the conference might have been cut all together, as it really didn't work for comic relief.

I wonder how much of their special effects budget Atlantis spent on Siege III. Mind you, I love the characters, their interaction... it was lovely. Like being back home after a long time apart. My favorite scenes have to be the Sheppard & Weir "I thought you were gone" and Sheppard & McKay on the balcony. Runners up include McKay & Zelenka banter and McKay & Weir's thing with the ZPM. Nice to see, though, that Rodney had time for a shower and shave before enacting the plan to save the city.

The make-up on Ford really didn't work for me. I know he's supposed to look alien, and that does work, but the biologist in me was screaming at it. Not to mention, the scene where Beckett tosses him the enzyme. As if, by the time he actually manages to inject himself with it, the enzyme having been out of a fridge and at close to body temperature wouldn't denature and he'd actually get some use out of it.

Shiny new music in some parts! I liked that they got to keep their openning credits. I'd have been happier if that were true for the other series as well, but it's not like you can do anything about it.

What I love in Galactica above all is the immediacy of the situation, the fact that the story never time jumps particularly far ahead. We pick up in every scene where we left off months ago, and we merely continue, we don't wrap up. I love that.

I love the little suicidal Cylon. I love that Caprica!Sharon wants to live, and Galactica!Sharon wants to die. I love Lee with his father's blood on his hands, and the fact that we honestly don't get to see him react to that. He is simply in too much pain and too numb to realise it. I love that even in the middle of a coup d'etat, Roslin has time to slow down, and in that teacher voice ask the pertinent questions of Lee, to get him to communicate. And then, get him to act. I loved Tyrol taking that dude's dog tags, and Cally urging him to move.

I even like the cheesy cheering in CIC (It will turn into C&C one of these days when I'm not looking).

And now, I go night night. It is sorely needed.
