We went to see the Kirov Ballet (Bolshoi Theatre, St. Petersburg) perform Swan Lake. My dad made the comment above in the third act, regarding Sigfried's unfortunate inability to distiguish Odile from Odette.
It was great, though. It's also probably the first time I've seen it since we left Kiev, and definitely the first time that I remember. The sets and costumes were gorgeous, and the ballerinas just amazing - holding that swan position for the better part of an act must be horribly painful.
Now, I collapse.

I need to see Swan Lake again sometime -- I saw it at the Met in New York back in 2001 or so, but that was a long time ago, and it’s very probably my favourite ballet. The production sounds lovely, and I did always wonder if Siegfried had vision issues...maybe he just thought Odette decided to wear a different dress for the night?
